What are you doing now?" people would ask me. "Different things ... " If I'd told the truth, I would have said, "I'm doing nothing." For the first time since college, I have no work. I've always been overscheduled-writing TV scripts in the bleachers at Little League games-but at 57, I'm at home with no kids and no work.

    I just read this article by Sara Davidson and was amazed that I can so relate to it. I thought I was the only person in such a situation. I am also in the narrows and have no idea what I'm going to do next. I have no money and no job. What I would love to do is open a non-profit animal rescue center. But, where do I begin? Thank you for showing me that I am not alone!

      This cultures makes poor use of people who are in "these narrows" We have slews of self help gurus who tell us how to tap youthful ambition, but no one wants to know what people who have been there can do or know......
